Just a silly girl trying to live a healthier life. I love to cook, craft, garden, read, travel and spend time with my wonderful husband.

Tonight, Ryan convinced me to go for a ride after our delicious and very primal dinner of bbq’d steak with veggie skewers. At first I was all “meh” about the whole thing, but it was gorgeous evening and the trail by the river is so nice. We did aprox. 10km and I now feel amazing.

My exhuasted fat ass after the bridge which is a moderate incline but is so long I always feel like giving up 3/4 of the way through. But I didn’t!

All red faced. Lovely.

Our Bikes (obvs)

What happens when you go biking on a windy day and forget to take your eye makeup off.

So now I’m going to chug my h2o and try my best not to eat my weight in hummus before crashing in bed. I hope everyone is having a fabulous Friday!

It was a small one at home, but I still feel awesome! It consisted of:

  • Crunches
  • Arms (not that much since I have to work tonight and doing hair with jelly arms is bad news bears)
  • Lunges
  • Leg lifts and ankle strengthening
  • Me dancing like a madwoman to Robyn’s Body Talk in my living room
  • TONS of stretching

Combine all that with no air conditioning in my house and hot weather, you get one sweaty Liz!

After paying for a membership and not going for at least 6 months, I think it’s time I switch it up. Aside from my trainer who moved to a different city, I never really liked working out there. It was small and dark and didn’t have a whole lot of selection when it came to classes.

So I have a few options. I can work out at home until school starts and take advantage of the campus gym that is included in my tuition. I’ve gone there maybe once or twice and it’s always packed with football players and girls who wear makeup and 200 dollar yoga pants to work out. (you know the ones) But, it won’t cost me any extra.

Then there are the few mega gyms, some fancy “luxury” gyms, a ten dollar basic gym and the city run leisure centers that give you access to all the pools and other facilities.

Maybe I’ll take advantage of the occasional week long free trial memberships some of them have to make my decision easier.

Any advice?

Out for a walk by the river on this gorgeous sunny day

My old SIGG bottle is ruined and I need something new! Do you have a water bottle you love and would recommend?

I am planning on buying a new one tomorrow on my way to THE GYM, a place I haven’t set foot in in nearly 6 months.

I’m nervous so I bought new workout pants to psych me up.

I will do this.

I really need to pay more attention to my bank account. Last January I signed up for a one year membership at my gym and by the end of 2010, I assumed it would be finished. It turns out that unless I fill out a form to cancel the EFT, it continues to come out of my account and my membership is still valid. So basically I’ve had a gym membership for the past 2 months and had no idea! I’m ridiculous. I got in touch with my trainer though, and we are going to schedule a session this week. I need to take it pretty easy, but my main goal is to strengthen my quads and hamstrings before my knee surgeries to speed up my recovery.

In other news, in exactly 2 months from today, we will be leaving on our honeymoon to France and Switzerland! I’m so, so excited. We have our rail passes, reservations and accomodations all booked now which takes off a lot of the pressure of trip planning. Our itinerary is: Paris - Caen - Geneva -Zermatt - Interlaken - Paris

It’s only 2.5 weeks but I think we worked it out so we aren’t cramming too much into a short period.

Wow, that was intense! I say day 1 because the last time I tried it my lazy ass couldn’t finish it and I wanted to start fresh.

A few thoughts:

  • I suck hard at pushups
  • I need to remember to take my inhaler BEFORE doing the workout, my poor asthmatic lungs were not happy with me
  • drink tons of water before because there isnt much time to do so during the workout
  • Certain cardio moves were pretty painful on my knee, so I opted to run in place when the impact got too much.

Overall it was fun, and went by so quickly! I can see myself doing this daily.

Is this what you think of when someone says the word “Aquafit”? A bunch of older ladies bouncing around up and down a pool to bad remixes of pop music?

Well think again.

I went to a class last night that literally KICKED MY ASS. It was the best workout I have had in a very, very long time and it incorporated stretching, strengthening, abs and cardio all in 45 mins.

So aquafit classes and the women who go to them 5 times a week need serious props. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can still keep fit.

I know being scared of something isn’t a good reason not to try it, but seriously guys, lane swimming is SO INTIMIDATING. Ever since my knee injury, I keep telling myself that I should start swimming since I can’t do regular cardio. However, my fear is holding me back. I keep running all these questions through my head like : What if I smack right into someone because I can’t swim straight? What If I’m too slow and screw up the other swimmers, since the pool at my gym is very small, and often 2-3 people have to share a lane. Do I need fancy goggles and a swim cap? What about a proper bathing suit? Can I use a flutterboard without making a fool of myself?

See? I know it’s silly but the thought of going just makes me panic.

I need advice, tumblrs. Is lane swimming THAT bad? Am I crazy? Do you have any tips to help me “dive in”?
