Recipes I'm going to make this week
Or: I gained back all the weight I lost last week and we’re just going to pretend that didn’t happen so I’m going to start over and be extra healthy and stay on plan. Yeahhh, not so great WIW today. I’m not letting it discourage me, I just need to change up a few things. Plan my food for the whole day beforehand. Remember to track on weekends and not gorge at my...

30 day shred day 1 level 1
Wow, that was intense! I say day 1 because the last time I tried it my lazy ass couldn’t finish it and I wanted to start fresh. A few thoughts: I suck hard at pushups I need to remember to take my inhaler BEFORE doing the workout, my poor asthmatic lungs were not happy with me drink tons of water before because there isnt much time to do so during the workout Certain cardio moves were...

Kale for the first time & homemade won tons
First, here’s what I ate tonight. Kale and Mushrooms sauteed in olive oil and tons of garlic then tossed in red pepper flakes and a bit of parmesan. It was amazing! I’ve never had kale before, but I’m sold. Pan steamed chicken and shrimp won tons with some chili soy dipping sauce. (based on this recipe) The won tons took about an hour to assemble and I got 60 out of this...

Big Decisions
After considering it for awhile I decided to take a break from school this term and not register for classes. I kept feeling like I was in school for all the wrong reasons, not because I wanted to but because my family and my husband would be disappointed if I decided to quit. The truth is, I haven’t been happy, committed or interested for at least a year, with the exception of my term...

Dijon Herb Tenderloin and Roasted Beet Salad with...
Tonight’s dinner was sooo tasty! The Tenderloin In a small bowl mix dried or fresh Rosemary, Basil, Thyme, Salt and Pepper (whatever amounts you wish, as long as it’s enough to cover the surface of the pork) Add a spoonful or two of Dijon mustard, and about the same amount of olive oil to make a paste. Rub this over the surface of the pork. Bake at 400 for 25 minutes then cut...

On Weight Watchers
In previous posts here I have expressed my issues with Weight Watchers and their tendency to promote processed and fast food that is low in points but by no means healthy. It’s difficult for me to resolve my feelings about the program because when I was on it in the past, I was successful at losing weight and to this day the most I ever lost was on the program. Since injuring myself last...

Not so "good in the hood" →
fuckyeahsaskatoon: What Curtis Olson is saying is that the perceived scary inner city of Saskatoon isn’t so scary after all. Great. I would tend to agree with that. However, the fact that he and the residents of this new West Side Hipster Movement are shouldering such a motto because there is an influx of “creatives, hipsters, young professionals, entrepreneurs [etc.]” (read: white people)...

NSV
Last night Ryan and I got off our butts and did an awesome workout right in our living room! Mostly strength exercises but we mixed it up with a little DDR on the xbox. I’m at school for 12 hours today so no workout for me, but tomorrow I plan on doing something similar in the morning plus a walk down by the river.

Carrot Ginger Soup
I’m making this right now! Ryan is sick so I wanted to make something that would go down easy and feel nice on the throat. The original recipe was double the size, but since it’s just two of us I halved it. I also used yam instead of butternut squash and greek yogurt instead of heavy cream. Here’s my version: 1 small yam, diced 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 small onion, or...

The Frenemy.: A Lady's Guide To Makeup →
thefrenemy: I got a recent message from a reader asking me to talk about makeup, because makeup and makeup stores are confusing. I agree with this. I went into a Sephora one time. It smelled like a high-end hooker and was as bright as the white light that takes you up to heaven, so I immediately liked…

Chili Disaster
For some reason I fail at cooking chili. I’ve messed it up so many times I don’t even know why I still bother trying! I ALWAYS make it too spicy to eat, every time. Last night’s chili was supposed to be extra amazing. Even with the extra chipotles I figured it would turn out, but I was wrong. It was so spicy that Ryan couldn’t even finish half a bowl. I was able to eat...

Make it at Home: Indian Dahl
Bland food just doesn’t do it for me. If I’m cooking or eating at a restaurant, I prefer dishes with more complex and strong flavors over simpler, subtler options. Don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate food that tastes good without a lot of dressing up, but overall I love a good flavor punch in the face. Indian food has been a favorite of mine since I discovered my love for all...

Happy New Year!
Last night was our post wedding new years party and it was a serious blast. There was much drinking, dancing and hilarity with all our wonderful family and friends. Despite the fact that this past week has been crazy and stressful with getting things organized and ready for both the ceremony and the party, it was so worth it! In the end I’m married to the best guy everand we got to share our...
