WIW - Plateau edition
This week: 221
Last week and the week before that: about the same
Start: 237
Total loss: 16 lbs
Well despite being frustrating this is pretty good for not being able to exercise. Earlier this week I stepped on the scale (bad Liz!) and was at 225 but I attribute that to monthly girl bloat, ugh.
Anyhoo, I had a serious NSV last night. On my way home from a friends place I stopped at Mac’s...
My new favorite breakfast
1/2 cup grape nuts
2 spoonfuls of plain greek yogurt
1/2 cup blueberries
1 chopped peach
Mix!
The grape nuts give that crunchy satisfaction that I just don’t get from oats and it’s super filling.
Yum!
Loving the Grill
After much deliberation, Ryan and I FINALLY bought a BBQ, and it is seriously the best decision we have made all year. I am in love with grilling, it makes everything taste good, even normally bitter green peppers that I really dislike. It’s been so hot and humid here for the last few days that cooking inside is just not an option, especially since we don’t have air conditioning.

Changes
Well, I need surgery on my knee. The doctor says I have torn cartilage and is referring me to an orthopedic surgeon. This also means no more unsupervised gym visits, weekly physiotherapy and a very frustrated Liz.
How the heck do I get cardio in if I have trouble walking short distances? I am terrified that this is going to begin my vicious cycle of trying to get healthy, getting injured...
What are they teaching in schools?
A kid who looks about 12 or 13 walks up to the counter at the arcade I work at.
Me: What can I get for you?
Kid: A bag of chips and an iced tea
I grab both items and place them on the counter.
Me: That will be 3.50
the kid puts a two dollar coin on the counter and looks at me.
Me: That’s 2 dollars, I need another 1.50.
Kid: Uh, you’re not allowed to get 2 things for that much?

Busy
Somehow I managed to go from having no job and taking only one class to having THREE jobs and taking 2 classes. This is going to be interesting.
I haven’t been eating so well lately, but it’s only been a few days so I’m not sweating it. Tomorrow is a brand new day and the extra energy I will get from eating clean again is going to help me get through this busy patch. My biggest...
WIW
So, I have done WIW since before I left for South Africa and I think it’s about time I started again. I don’t really have a number to base my weekly weight loss on but This will just have to do.

Last Week: ???

Total Loss: 15.6lbs
Not bad! my last weigh in before I left had me at 224, then I gained a few while I was there which means I lost...

Balance
I’ve been having trouble balancing my food intake lately. I’ve been eating really well during the day only to find myself snacking like crazy after dinner. I think the issue is that by the time dinner is over, I still have about 300 calories left that I should have broken up over the course of the day. I’d prefer to be full enough from dinner not to have to snack past 7 or...

New Job
Sorta.
I made the decision to go back to my old salon part time to do hair again. Mostly because I’m broke but also because I miss it! It will be nice to have an excuse to do my hair/makeup when I leave the house since I usually feel silly going all out just for school.
So as of now I am a part time: hairstylist, student and research assistant. All three pretty much equal to a full time...

Recipe Makeover - Jambalaya
This morning I went to the hospital for my GI series tests. I have been having stomach issues lately and hopefully this will figure out what the heck is wrong with me. However, the test included a barium swallow which was probably the most vile thing I have ever injested in my life. After this ordeal and the stomache ache that followed, I found myself craving some real down home healthy food. This...
Cooking up a storm
Currently testing out a new recipe I made for a healthy version of Jambalaya. As soon as it’s done and I know it tastes good, I’ll post it here! It’s a fairly time consuming meal with lots of ingredients but nothing is actually difficult and the pay off is so worth it.
What type of recipes do you prefer? Tasty and Quick or Complicted and Delicious?
let the countdown, begin!

After seeing this post I just realized that I am getting married in exactly ONE YEAR. Maybe I should start planning?
Congrats Ilene! Your owl wedding art is fantastic!

A first hand account of a bystander that was arrested and held without charge for over 40 hours in Toronto during the G20 protests. It make me cry.

Obstacles
I am so frustrated with my body right now. My ankle injury hasn’t been that bad recently, but last night the knee on my other leg started hurting and now whenever i straighten it, I get sharp, horrible pain. This means I had to cancel my training session this afternoon and working out in almost any capacity is off limits.
I’ve been dealing with this issue for a number of years now. I start ...
honestlybelieved asked: Well, I see you just posted a picture of your make-up goodie bag. What is your make-up routine? Anything you can't live without? Any recommendations on eyeliner that will stay put on my bottom lash line all day? That was a few questions...whoops! :)

Operation Wedding Dress (OWD)
What I’m going to do:
Find balance in my daily food intake. Since raw veggies cause major tummy issues for me, I need to find creative ways to incorporate cooked veg and lean protein into my diet and reduce my carbs. Also, Drink more water!
Exercise 5 days a week for at least 1 hour. This can include intensive gardening, renovating, bike riding, walking, swimming and gym going.

Back at it
So I’m in the library again, finishing up and assignment about Education in South Africa but I’m distracted! It’s so nice outside and I keep looking out the window and wishing I was enjoying the sun and the fresh air. It’s supposed to rain again soon so I really need to take advantage of the good weather but the assignment is due today so I’m stuck.
We went for a...
So ready
To get back into my healthy mode! Of course I say this while sitting in my parents kitchen drinking a beer and munching on pretzels, but my intent is still genuine. I gained about 5 lbs while in South Africa, mostly because I had little control over the food we were given and my ankle injury prevented me from getting any good exercise but I’m not stressed about it.
We spent a lot of money...

Back to Reality
Leaving South Africa tomorrow, it’s been a long but amazing five weeks. We got to go on Safari, see a World Cup exhibition game and got to experience the history and culture of the country first hand. I’m excited to go home and see Ryan, get back into my exercise routine (although I sprained my damn ankle on a hike through the game reserve) and start enjoying summer.
I hope everyone...

Off to Africa.
The past few days have been…interesting. I’ve been ridiculously sick, probably a combination of food intolerance and stress but my digestive system pretty much said “I quit!” and it’s been hellish to say the least. I’m slowly getting better though, being very careful about what I eat and drink. Today’s lunch is white rice with steamed spinach and a bit of...

I leave in a week and I’m in serious panic mode, hence the lack of posting. Eating wise, things have been mediocre, I still have a stomach ache every day which the doctor thinks might be a side effect of the meds I am taking, but the side effects of not taking them are just as bad. Soooo, not much I can do.
I see my trainer tomorrow. It will probably be my last workout before I leave which...
Hey peeps, I need some good travelling music to fill my iPod for the trip, reccomendations?
Ugh.
Well all my tests came back normal, which means I’m not Celiac, I don’t have Collitis and I don’t have an ulcer. This is all very good news but it also makes me think:
What the hell is wrong with me?
I actually felt near tears when the receptionist gave me the news, because it means I am no closer to finding answers than I was 2 weeks ago. With the trip happening in just over...

Liz's Artichoke How To
Or, What Liz does when she has a final tomorrow and is procrastinating.
Kim (@ohsosinister) asked me this yesterday:
“Heeeeey Liz: How do you do up your artichokes? I’ve only ever had artichoke hearts from, like, a jar. Ha ha. Teach me your ways and recipes! :)” Here we go!
Artichokes have been my favorite vegetable since my parents introduced me to them as a kid. They...
